Thornton Abbey

Aerial Survey 3.jpg

Thornton Abbey, a nationally significant medieval monastic site, was digitally surveyed to provide a dimensionally accurate record of the Abbey Church ruins and the surviving Barbican.

The commission utilised a combined approach of UAV photogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanning, integrating data captured using a DJI M300 with P1 sensor alongside Leica RTC360 and Trimble survey instrumentation, all referenced to a controlled survey network.

The resulting outputs included high-resolution orthophotographs of the church ruins, standing elevations, and barbican structures, delivered in CAD-ready formats to support conservation, analysis, and future heritage management.
